Comprehensive Perturbation Approach to Nonlinear Viscous Gravity–Capillary Surface Waves at Arbitrary Wavelengths in Finite Depth

چکیده

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the second-order perturbation theory applied to Navier–Stokes equations governing free surface flows. We focus on gravity–capillary waves in incompressible viscous fluids finite depth over flat bottom. The amplitude these is regarded as parameter. A systematic derivation nonlinear-surface-wave equation presented that fully takes into account dispersion, while nonlinearity included leading order. However, presence infinitely many over-damped modes has been neglected and only two least-damped are considered. new surface-wave formulated wave-number space rather than real nonlinear terms contain convolutions making an integro-differential equation. Some preliminary numerical results compared with computational-modelling data obtained via open source CFD software OpenFOAM.

Surface Plasmon Waves on noble metals at Optical Wavelengths

In this paper the variation of the propagation constant, the attenuation coefficient, penetration depth inside the metal and the dielectric has been evaluated. The propagation characteristics of Surface Plasmon Waves (SPWs) which exists on noble metals like gold (Au), silver (Ag) and aluminium (Al) due to the formation of Surface Plasmon Polaritons (SPPs), have been evaluated theoretically and ...

Nonlinear evolution of surface gravity waves over highly variable depth.

New nonlinear evolution equations are derived that generalize those presented in a Letter by Matsuno [Phys. Rev. Lett. 69, 609 (1992)]] and a terrain-following Boussinesq system recently deduced by Nachbin [SIAM J Appl. Math. 63, 905 (2003)]]. The regime considers finite-amplitude surface gravity waves on a two-dimensional incompressible and inviscid fluid of, highly variable, finite depth. A F...

Multifrequency plane, nonlinear, and dissipative waves at arbitrary distances

A solution for multifrequency plane waves propagating through a dissipative and nonlinear medium is presented. It originates from the well-known Bessel function series ratio for a pure sinusiodal wave, introduced by Cole and Mendousse. The solution is exact. The only limitation, inherited from the single-frequency solution, is the slow convergence of the series when the nonlinearity is very lar...

A Hamiltonian Approach to Nonlinear Modulation of Surface Water Waves

Many wave phenomena in physics are described by weakly nonlinear nearly monochromatic solutions in the form of modulated wave packets. The examples include ocean waves as well as waves in optics and in plasmas. There are a number of approaches to deriving the envelope equations for these theories of amplitude modulation. In this paper, we give a unified approach, based on the principles of a Ha...

Nonlinear Stability of Viscous Roll Waves

Extending results of Oh–Zumbrun and Johnson–Zumbrun for parabolic conservation laws, we show that spectral stability implies nonlinear stability for spatially periodic viscous roll wave solutions of the one-dimensional St. Venant equations for shallow water flow down an inclined ramp. The main new issues to be overcome are incomplete parabolicity and the nonconservative form of the equations, w...
